That sounds like it's not very high in the priority list. Is this really so
hard to implement. Many window managers (eg. KDE WM, Sawfish) allow
different appearance of maximized and normal sized windows.

... and this isn't doable in a reliable fashion, I guess. Isn't it possible
to tell X not to reuse window identifiers if possible? After all these
numbers are very long and I doubt that I'll run out of identifiers during a
typical X session (usually lasts one day).
