I can think of two possible explanations:

 - The X screen is wider than the resolution of the monitor. No
   idea if this is possible with AIX, and if it is, how to turn it
   off.

 - You can't see the whole X screen on the monitor. Use the
   wheels, buttons, ... on the monitor's case to move the image
   to the left and shrink it if necessary.

BTW, what you describe has nothing to do with the fvwm settings
above.
