There was such color conversion for png, but it was fixed in 2.5.2.

As for transparency/translucency, it all depends on where you try to
apply the png images. If there is no good background to be used as the
basis of png, libpng can't be informed to use translucency.
It may require some preparations.

Please send the relevant configuration and png files, or put them on the
web. Then maybe some suggestions are possible.
