I've been using unclutter for years, but on every platform I've run it
on, it seems to run into some sort of condition where it stops removing
the pointer... sometimes right away, sometimes after several hours of
running perfectly. I have to stop and restart it.

This doesn't have much to do with fvwm, though... unless, dare I
suggest, that fvwm could incorporate this functionality, somehow? Oohh..
