I tried commenting *all* other 'Style' lines out except for the five above
and restarting fvwm and amaya. no change.

If I run amaya under another name I get exactly the same behavior.

I suppose I could re-compile fvwm with some debug options and then get
a better idea of what's going on by analyzing some log?
