Note on some keyboards the F11 and F12 keys work like F1 and F2, by
default (this has been true on my Sun keyboards I've used, where F11 is
often bound to the "Stop" button on the left side keypad, and F12 is
bound to "Again").

Don't know if that's true for you or not but a short exploration with
xkeycaps might be in order...
