FVWM: xmailbox++ and Sparc20

I'm running fvwm 1.2 with no problems until...

We've recently gotten in some Sparc20's running with Ross's
150 MHz processor. When we fire up fvwm on these machines,
the console spits out
   dbri_xmitqcmd: out of DVMA space!
and the speaker squeals continuously.

I've tracked the problem down to xmailbox++. As soon as it
tries to output audio, the message appears and the squealing
starts.

This doesn't seem to have anything to do with the OS, as other
Sparc 20's (without the fast Ross cpu) are also running SunOs4.1.4.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks
