You need fvwm version 2.5.5 or better (2-Dec-2002).
Did you read the place in the FAQ that says you should use one of the
certain background setter utilities? This point is repeated 2 times
(actually 3 times now) in the FAQ, I don't know how it may be improved.
Personally I think transparency is fun, but not the most usable thing.
